Progress update on the rougelike version
Hi there!
I've been continuing work on the game, and I've done good progress! I felt like sharing my progress so far, so here we go!
Things that have been done already include:
- A* pathfinding for enemies
- Added a new, more difficult ranged enemy
- Better AI for enemies
- A death screen displaying run stats
- A first good step on making procedural levels
- A new dice type
- Many QoL features including using WASD to move
- A clean level transition, skipping the need for the "Next" button
- More juice with particle effects and screen shake
But there are still a lot of things I want to add before I release this roguelike version of the game, that feel necessary to show what it can become. Things I will be working on in the coming month includes:
- A final boss
- Additional enemies
- Improved dungeon aesthetics
- Improve the level generation algorithm
- A simple upgrade system, letting you upgrade dice you own to give them bonuses. (For example, upgrading the dash dice will let you dash through enemies and deal damage)
- Better difficulty scaling and making sure it's easier to recover from bad moves.
I haven't come as far as I hope I would have at this point, motivation is always a problem when it comes to making bigger games, but the great feedback from players of the jam version have pushed me to always try to make something almost every day.
I hope this post makes someone excited to try out the alpha once I’ve implemented the things listed above. If you have any ideas on further things you’d like, be sure to comment on this post! Especially if you have ideas for bonuses for the dice when you upgrade them, as I still haven't figured out all those yet. (The dash upgrade is the only one I'm fully happy with)
But until next time, cheers!
